story tonight. david? >> well steve jobs has been on a medical leave since the first of the year but neither he nor the company have been willing to say what the medical condition s that has led to speculation. with today's surprise announcement, the company made it clear it was prepared for this day. now jobs has been apple's front man for years. the public face of a company with loyal customers. his key note speeches at conferences inspired them to create applications to run on ipads, and mac computers. he built apple into a best known brand recommending his number-two executive tim cook succeed him. the board agreed. there are now concerns whether he can fill steve jobs' shoes with the same style. >> tim cook could never do what steve jobs did for apple. i don't see him as the kind of person that can have the focus whurk look at steve jobs he's a different kind of leader. he's not just a business person. he's someone who really thinks about the human experience and tells you what you want to think. >> and cook will now take over a company grown into a global power house, making mo
